THE CARS:
A V8 stock car is a 1000kg single seat racing car which is generally powered by
a small block Chevrolet V8 engine.
The cars are built to a strict specification and perform on 13" wheels. They are
a nice size to work on and are not difficult to
transport around. Many drivers simply use a car/van and trailer. You can buy a
competitive V8 stock car for as little as £3/5k,
ready to race. As in all motorsports you do get the ones who spend far more than
that on their cars for whatever reason(s).
However, there are superstar status drivers who fall into the above price
bracket. I think you'll agree that £3/5k in this day
and age is not a great deal to fulfil your dream of racing. They are fairly low
cost to maintain and engines generally last a
number of seasons without major rebuilds, although you could always be the
unlucky one, as in all motorsport.

THE RACING:
Cars line up in a graded order with the faster cars starting at the rear. Grades
are determined by way of a points which
awards points to the first ten drivers across the finishing line. Periodically,
the points are totalled and drivers are graded
accordingly. Approximately *twenty cars race at any one time in a multiple
lap challenge where the sole aim is to be first
across the line. Drivers are able to forcibly remove other cars from the racing
line through skilful use of the front bumper.
*2011 has not the best of seasons for all formulas due to the financial
restraints caused by the credit crunch. It has
resulted in lower car turnouts than in previous years. However, the V8 stock car
formula looks as though it has ridden
the storm and drivers are returning slowly, but surely, with many more expected
out later in the season.

WHERE DO THEY RACE?
Wimbledon Stadium, London. Ipswich Stadium, Suffolk
Yarmouth Stadium, Norfolk. Eastbourne Stadium, Sussex
Aldershot, Hampshire
Spedeworth Motorsports are the promotors

Meetings are held approximately every two/three weeks
throughout the season and there are approximately twenty
meetings per season, although prior to the 2011 season it was decided that there
would be fewer meetings this
season in order to try and maintain acceptable car numbers at all meetings. As
car numbers increase and things
get back to normal, more V8 meetings will be scheduled.

CONCLUSION:
If you're serious about racing and think you could handle the power of a five
litre V8, want to race without the
racing totally taking over your life, then V8 Stock Cars are the answer. A
comparatively cheap formula to enter,
cars are comparatively cheap to maintain, nice size to work on and can be
transported on a car/van & trailer.
They're more affordable than you think!
